Paralysis

“A stroke, also known as paralysis, refers to the sudden onset of localized neurological impairment caused by disorders of the brain’s blood vessels and its contents. In developed countries, stroke ranks as the third leading cause of mortality. In India, the prevalence of stroke stands at approximately 200 cases per 100,000 individuals, contributing to 9.94% of total deaths.

In Ayurveda, paralysis is described as ‘Pakshaghata,’ signifying ‘paralysis of one half of the body.’ Here, ‘paksha’ represents one side of the body, and ‘aghata’ signifies the loss of bodily movements and mental stability.”

Ayurvedic Treatment for Paralysis

Ayurvedic treatment for paralysis utilizes Panchakarma, a pivotal therapy within Ayurveda, consisting of five primary procedures:

  1. Vamana (therapeutic emesis)
  2. Virechana (purgation)
  3. Asthapanvasti (enema using medicated decoction)
  4. Anuvasanvasti (enema using medicated oil)
  5. Shirovirechan /nasya (nasal administration of medicines)

Additionally, several complementary therapies such as snehana (oleation) and swedana (fomentation) fall under the umbrella of Panchakarma. This comprehensive approach is particularly effective in treating neurological conditions, including paralysis.

Procedures like Shashtika shali pinda Sweda, Matra Basti, Shiro Basti, and Sarvanga Abhyanga play a crucial role in strengthening nerves and improving blood circulation to the affected areas, promoting faster recovery and improved mobility.
